For the month of November, my 1st graders have been raising money for something called Operation Santa Claus. They collected change and dollar bills for doing chores or helping out around the house. Today we got to go shopping for toys for kids who otherwise would not get any.
I'm so proud of these kiddos! They were assigned a child and got to see their top two choices for Christmas. The kids used their math skills and figured out how they could get the most out of their money. They were so proud and felt so happy to do something for someone else, and as a teacher...that makes my heart happy!
If only I could actually show you pictures of their faces so you could see how much joy they got out of doing this and how proud they were to hand their money to the cashier and handed the bag full of toys!
